Carty batted .299 with 204 homers and 890 RBIs over 15 years in the majors. He retired after the 1979 season.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports that the Blue Jays have tendered contracts to all of their remaining arbitration-eligible players on Friday.

The club did not tender a contract to right-handers Jordan Romano or Dillon Tate and reached an agreement to avoid arbitration with right-hander Erik Swanson. That leaves Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Daulton Varsho, Alejandro Kirk, Alek Manoah, Zach Pop and Ernie Clement as players who were tendered contracts. The only real surprise among the group is Pop, who could have (should have?) been a non-tender candidate after struggling to a 5.59 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and just a 33/19 K/BB ratio across his 48 1/3 innings of work.
Erik Swanson

Blue Jays avoided arbitration with RHP Erik Swanson by agreeing to a one-year contract.

No word on the financials of this one yet, but Swanson was projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $3.2 million via arbitration so expect that the figure will land somewhere in that range. The 31-year-old hurler took a step backwards after two brilliant seasons in 2022 and 2023, posting an underwhelming 5.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 37/14 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings in 45 appearances with the Jays. With Jordan Romano getting non-tendered on Friday, the door is open for Swanson to ascend to a high-leverage role if he starts out the season strong in 2025.
Juan Soto

FA Left Fielder #22

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports Juan Soto is scheduled to meet with the Yankees and Dodgers this week.

Feinsand adds that the “feeling around the industry” is that Soto will make his final decision on where to take his generational talent prior to the Winter Meetings, which begin on December 9. He also notes that Soto has already met with the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Mets; with those meetings including representatives from club ownership in addition to front office executives and each team’s manager. The Mets and Yankees remain the favorites to ultimately land Soto on a lucrative long-term contract, but it sounds like the Blue Jays and Red Sox could be legitimate alternatives at this juncture. Of course, we’re never going to rule out the Dodgers either.
Willy Adames

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, free agent shortstop Willy Adames has already generated interest from a plethora of teams.

Morosi notes that while the Dodgers, Braves, Giants and Red Sox all make sense as suitors given their vacancies at shortstop, he also adds that the Yankees, Blue Jays and Astros are believed to be interested in Adames as a third baseman. The 29-year-old slugger is coming off of his finest season as a professional, setting new career highs in home runs (31), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (93). He should wind him hitting in the middle of a contender’s lineup so regardless of his landing spot expect Adames to remain as a fringe top-10 option at the shortstop position in fantasy drafts.
David Bell

Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi of Sportsnet report that the Blue Jays have agreed to hire former Reds’ manager David Bell to be their vice president of baseball operations and assistant general manager.

The 52-year-old was cut loose by the Reds in late September after his squad stumbled down the stretch and missed the postseason. He brings with him a wealth of experience in the game and should be an asset to the Jays’ front office where he will oversee player development. No word on the financials or the duration of the contract.
Yoan Moncada

FA Third Baseman #10

Francys Romero reports that Yoán Moncada is generating interest in the free-agent market.

Romero mentions some of the teams that have monitored the infielder are the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Mariners. Moncada is a free agent after the White Sox declined his $25 million option for the 2025 season. The former top prospect does have a career .756 OPS and offers the ability to play both third and second base, but has struggled mightily over the last few seasons both on the field and to stay healthy. He’s likely looking at a one-year “prove it” deal this winter.
Juan Soto

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Blue Jays and Red Sox have lined up the first meetings with free agent Juan Soto.

Most seem to expect the Blue Jays to be among the high bidders for Soto. It’d be a surprise if the Red Sox were competitive, given their reticence in recent years, but if they were even going to break the bank, this would be the occasion.
Max Fried

FA Starting Pitcher #54

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays are among the teams pursuing free agent southpaw Max Fried.

The 30-year-old left-hander is one of the top starting pitchers available on the open market this season, so he’s going to attract plenty of interest. The Orioles, Red Sox and Yankees have all been linked to him already as well and the Braves have made it a priority to retain him as well. MLBTradeRumors.com expects Fried to land a contract in the range of $156 million over six years.
Daulton Varsho

Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins said that Daulton Varsho (shoulder) “could be a little bit behind” Opening Day in 2025.

Varsho had rotator cuff surgery at the end of the season and there was always an expectation that he would miss some time in 2025 but that now seems all but assured. With Kevin Kiermaier also retiring, the Blue Jays are currently without an option in center field until Varsho is healthy enough to take the field.
Bo Bichette

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins told MLB Network’s Jon Morosi that it’s “an easy no” on trade talks involving Bo Bichette.

Bichette, who underwent finger surgery back in late September, battled through an injury-marred campaign last year, but it sounds like the Blue Jays have zero intention of dealing one of their franchise cornerstones. If healthy, the 26-year-old shortstop feels like a clear rebound candidate for fantasy purposes, and will likely wind up as a top 15 shortstop on draft day.
