With his velocity down by about two mph from his old norms, Gallegos had a 6.53 ERA in 20 2/3 innings before the Cardinals dropped him in July. He was pretty terrific the previous five years, racking up 43 saves and 76 holds while amassing a 3.14 ERA in 283 innings for the Cardinals from 2019-23. If he looks good in spring training, he’ll likely claim a spot in the Dodger pen.

Gallegos, who possesses a 3.49 ERA in 311 career relief appearances, had a rocky year that saw him get released by the Cardinals with two months to go, but it still seemed like his history might get him a guaranteed deal this winter. Perhaps it still might have eventually, but he’s decided against playing the waiting game and joined a team that has a better chance than most of helping him get things turned around.

The versatile 29-year-old is under contract through the 2025 season, but the Dodgers would like to lock him up on a much longer term. There’s no indication that anything is close on that front, but with money being no issue for the Dodgers, the two sides shouldn’t have trouble ironing out the details in the coming weeks.

Woodward previously functioned as the team’s third base coach from 2016-2018 and he has been in the organization for the past couple of years as a senior advisor on the player development side. There was a vacancy at the position after Clayton McCullough left to become the new manager of the Miami Marlins.

Logue belongs on a minor league contract, but Honeywell seemed like a guy who might fit into the Dodgers pen next year after a nice finish with the team last season (2.62 ERA in 34 1/3 innings). Perhaps he’ll stay on a non-roster deal, but he should draw some interest.

Gonsolin just finished up a two-year, $6.65 million contract that he signed a super-two player after his breakthrough 2022. He spent last season working his way back from Tommy John, and though the Dodgers considered activating him in the postseason after his successful September rehab stint, they ultimately decided against it. He should be part of the team’s six-man rotation next season.

May was projected to earn $2.135 million by MLB Trade Rumors, but it appears the Dodgers were at least a smidgen worried the figure would come out higher than that. The 27-year-old missed all of the 2024 season dueto a torn flexon as well as a torn esophagus, but should be ready to help the Dodgers’ rotation in 2025.

He adds that those aren’t the only four teams interested in the 25-year-old left-hander. Crochet’s trade deadline value was up in the air because of workload issues in his return from Tommy John and because of his move from the bullpen to the rotation. Now, though, it’s less complicated; he’s simply a young pitcher with ace ability and two years of control left before free agency. The White Sox are almost surely going to move him and net themselves an outstanding return. They’re focusing on top position prospects now after targeting young pitchers in previous trades and at the top of the draft.

Like Aaron Judge in the American League, Ohtani was a unanimous selection, capturing all 30 first-place votes. It’s the third time in his career that Ohtani has been named the MVP. Each of the other two times, Ohtani had been a two-way superstar for the Angels in both 2021 and 2023. Ohtani becomes the first full-time designated hitter to ever with an MVP award and he joins Hall of Famer Frank Robinson as the only players in major league history to win the award in both the American and National League. On the season, the 30-year-old slugger slashed an incomprehensible .310/.390/.646 with 54 home runs, 130 RBI and 59 stolen bases. Francisco Lindor finished as the runner-up, tallying 23 second-place votes while Ketel Marte finished third.

The Red Sox’s interest had already been noted over the weekend, but now we know that Snell has already met with them. Boston seems dead set on adding a frontline starting pitcher this offseason, and they have no lefties in their rotation so Snell would make some sense. The Dodgers also seem intent on adding at least one big starting pitcher this offseason since their injury-plagued rotation caused them to rely on bullpen games in the postseason. Snell signed a two-year, $62 million deal with the Giants last offseason but opted out after a tremendous year, so he will likely be looking for a much longer contract this time around.
