Jacksonville Jaguars

Now on their bye week, the Jaguars have made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday.

Jacksonville announced the team has placed receiver Gabe Davis on injured reserve and activated rookie running back Keilan Robinson off of IR.

Davis suffered a season-ending meniscus tear during Sunday’s loss to the Lions.

Davis ends the 2024 season with 20 receptions for 239 yards with two touchdowns.

Robinson was selected in the fifth round of this year’s draft but suffered a toe injury in late July, going on IR when the team reduced its roster to 53 players. His 21-day practice window was opened on Oct. 30.

On Sunday, the media outlet partially owned by the Jaguars reported that a “dramatic move” could be coming for the Jaguars this week, with coach Doug Pederson and G.M. Trent Baalke as the primary candidates for being on the wrong end of drama.

Then a football game happened. It was the biggest loss in team history.

Since then, there has been nothing. Even as the league has buzzed about the possibility if not likelihood that Pederson is done.

If Pederson is staying, the Jaguars need to make it known. Starting with reporters at the media outlet the Jaguars partially own. If he’s not, the clock is ticking.

And if that’s what’s going to happen, why the delay? One explanation could be simple — dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things. Alternatively, the Jaguars might be trying to figure out who the interim coach will be. Or perhaps the status of G.M. Trent Baalke remains unresolved.

Regardless, the media outlet partially owned by the Jaguars lit the fuse on Sunday. If it’s not leading to a bomb, the team needs to make that known.

Word on Monday morning was that Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis tore his meniscus during Sunday’s loss to the Lions, but it wasn’t clear whether he’d have a chance to return this season or not.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson put that question to rest during his press conference later in the day. Pederson confirmed that the wideout won’t be back on the field before the year is over.

“He is going to miss the rest of the season,” Pederson said. “It is confirmed this morning. I hate it for him. He’s battled through some injuries this season. He was in good spirits today when I saw him, but he’ll miss the remainder of the year.”

This is the first year of a three-year deal that Davis signed with the Jags as a free agent. He had 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 appearances for Jacksonville.

Doug Pederson said “if it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna happen” on Sunday when asked about possibly being fired as the Jaguars head coach in the wake of a 52-6 loss to the Lions, but nothing’s happened yet.

Pederson held his regularly scheduled press conference on Monday afternoon and the team has said nothing about his job security at this point. Pederson said he spoke to Jaguars owner Shad Khan after the loss to Detroit, but that there was no meeting scheduled for the two men on Monday.

Pederson also said he’s “still evaluating” any potential changes to make during the team’s bye week and said it is “dangerous” to lay blame on others for the team’s 2-9 start.

“If it’s going to point any fingers, point it at me,” Pederson said.

Pederson won’t have a hard time finding takers for that request around Jacksonville, but, for now, Khan has not been one of them.

Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis’s season might be over.

Davis injured his knee in Sunday’s 52-6 loss to the Lions and NFL Media reports that he is believed to have a torn meniscus. Tests are still being done to evaluate the injury.

Surgery is the expected outcome for Davis, although it remains to be seen if he needs a trim or a full repair. Davis would be definitely be done for the year with a full repair, but the timing of the injury and the state of the 2-9 Jaguars might mean he’s finished playing either way.

Davis signed a three-year deal with the Jaguars this offseason. He has 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns this season.

If the Jaguars part ways during the bye week with coach Doug Pederson, what happens with G.M. Trent Baalke?

In August, owner Shad Khan said that “this is the best team assembled by the Jacksonville Jaguars, ever.” Well, Baalke built that team. Will he avoid the hammer, if the hammer does indeed fall in Jacksonville?

There’s a belief in some circles that Baalke’s future potentially hinges on a package deal that would bring Bill Belichick to the team as the next head coach. Belichick and Baalke spent two years together as co-workers with the Jets, in 1998 and 1999. And some believe Baalke’s prospects with the Jaguars could indeed hinge on selling both Khan and Belichick on giving it a go.

The Jaguars emerged as a potential suitor for Belichick after a 47-10 loss to the Bills. Now, after the worst loss in franchise history, 52-6 in Detroit, things could indeed heat up for the Jaguars and Belichick, who is available to be interviewed at any time.

Hell, they could hire Belichick for the rest of the year, if they want. Yes, they’d have to still conduct a full and appropriate interview process after the season. But teams have perfected the art of checking the boxes — and the league has perfected the craft of letting them.

Now or later, Belichick is a name to watch in Jacksonville. And Belichick could be Baalke’s key to sticking around beyond 2024.

The Jaguars came into Sunday amid reports that big changes could be coming during their bye week and their effort against the Lions did nothing to suggest the team should stay the course.

The Lions humiliated them 52-6 and the Jags limp into their bye week with a 2-9 record. They are 3-14 since Week 12 of the 2023 season and the talk of changes has centered on head coach Doug Pederson being fired before the year is out.

After Sunday’s loss, Pederson discussed his status at a press conference.

“I can’t control that,” Pederson said. “Listen, I’ve been around this league a long time and if it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna happen. But, at the same time, I still have a job to do and that’s to get ready for a good division opponent here in two weeks.”

The bye week gives the Jaguars some time to acclimate themselves to a new way of doing things and word of any move should come pretty early in the week.

The Lions entered today’s game against the Jaguars as the biggest betting favorites in any game of this NFL season. It turns out the people who set the point spreads know what they’re doing.

The Lions won 52-6, making today’s game the biggest blowout of this NFL season.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff finished with 412 passing yards and a perfect 158.3 passer rating, and the Lions scored touchdowns on all seven possessions that Goff played.

The Lions got an outstanding game from Amon-Ra St. Brown, who caught all 11 passes thrown to him for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Jameson Williams, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs all played well for the Lions as well. As a team, the Lions totaled 645 yards of offense, the most in any game of this NFL season.

Nothing went well for the Jaguars. Mac Jones managed just 138 passing yards and Travis Etienne led them with 27 rushing yards. The Jaguars managed just 170 yards of total offense.

Today may have been Doug Pederson’s last game as the Jaguars’ head coach. It just hasn’t worked for him in Jacksonville, and the Jaguars are one of the worst teams in the NFL.

The Lions are the best team in the NFL. They’re showing that with dominant performances, week after week.

NFL kickers continue to make the game look too easy.

Today in Detroit it was Jacksonville kicker Cam Little, who booted a 59-yard field goal after the Jaguars’ first drive to give his team a 3-0 lead over the heavily favored Lions.

A 59-yard field goal used to be almost unheard of in the NFL, but now they happen almost once a week: There have now been nine field goals of 59 yards or longer so far this season.

It was Little’s career long, and it was a bright start for the Jaguars on a day when they’re the biggest underdogs in the NFL so far this season.

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said on Friday that he expected wide receiver Davante Adams to play against the Colts on Sunday and Adams is in the lineup.

Adams missed two practices with a wrist injury and an illness, but returned for a full practice on Friday. Sunday’s game will be his fifth since being traded to the Jets by the Raiders and his new team will be looking for their second win with the wideout.

On the Colts’ side, the team announced that right tackle Braden Smith (personal) would play on Sunday morning. They are missing left tackle Bernhard Raimann, however.
