Amen Thompson finished Saturday’s loss to Portland with 19 points (7-of-11 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), seven rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 35 minutes.

Thompson has been an 8th-round player in 9-cat formats over the last two weeks, four rounds better than his season-long value. Tari Eason (four points, five rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot) didn’t play well on Saturday, but he remains the higher-ranked fantasy option of the Rockets’ top two reserves. Both must be rostered in standard leagues, especially with some of Houston’s reserves struggling.

HOU Point Guard #5

Fred VanVleet shot 4-of-13 from the field in Saturday’s loss to Portland, scoring eight points with five rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 28 minutes.

VanVleet heads into Week 6 as a top 50 fantasy player, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. He’s shooting 39.4% from the field, and Saturday was an incredibly frustrating night. An attempt to draw a foul on a 3-point attempt in the final minute went ignored, and VanVleet would eventually be ejected. There were some questions about whether or not he made contact with an official before leaving the court; if the NBA decides that he did, it could be “Reed Sheppard time” to begin Week 6.

HOU Shooting Guard #4

Jalen Green logged 30 minutes in Saturday’s loss to the Blazers, recording a line of 10 points (3-of-14 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer.

Efficiency has rarely been Green’s strength since he entered the NBA, which has limited his fantasy ceiling. He’s shot 36.9% from the field over the last two weeks, ranking well outside the top 200 in 9-cat formats. Green will look to begin the turnaround on Tuesday in Minnesota, the first of three games Houston plays in Week 6.

Jabari Smith Jr. shot 3-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line in Saturday’s loss to Portland, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds, one assist, three blocks, and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes.

Smith is struggling with his shot, making 41.9% of his attempts from the field. He still appears to be struggling to figure out where he fits in Houston’s offensive attack, and the third-year forward has the lowest usage of the five starters. Smith isn’t a player who should be dropped in fantasy leagues, but fantasy managers need three-block nights like Saturday to become the norm to counter the limited offensive value.
Alperen Sengun

Alperen Sengun accounted for 22 points (7-of-17 FGs, 8-of-11 FTs), five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 36 minutes in Saturday’s loss to the Trail Blazers.

After shooting 37.3% from the field in October (five games), Sengun has been a more efficient offensive weapon. He’s made 52.2% of his shots in November, which is one reason why he’s been a 3rd-round player since the calendar flipped. Regarding season-long value, only Tari Eason has been better among Rockets players. Houston plays three games in Week 6, beginning with the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
Steven Adams

Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) will not play against the Trail Blazers on Saturday.

Unsurprisingly, Adams will once again sit out the second night of a back-to-back. Jock Landale will fill out the backup center minutes, but with Alperen Sengun healthy, he won’t play enough to impact fantasy basketball.

Amen Thompson logged 24 minutes in Friday’s win over Portland, finishing with 10 points (3-of-8 FGs, 4-of-7 FTs), 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots.

Bench sidekicks Thompson and Tari Eason were outstanding on Friday, with the latter putting up 22 points in 22 minutes. As for the former, he recorded a complete stat line and is ranked just outside the top 100 in 9-cat formats over the last two weeks. Thompson may be ranked outside the top 150 for the season, but the defensive value makes him well worth the risk.

Tari Eason shot 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-5 from the foul line in Friday’s win over Portland, scoring 22 points with eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.

The Rockets are ranked eighth in the NBA in bench points per game, thanks primarily to the play of Eason and Amen Thompson. Both shined on Friday, with the former averaging one point per minute and the latter posting a double-double and complete stat line. Eason is ranked just outside the top 30 in 9-cat formats, and his skill set is such that there should not be much of a drop-off as the season progresses. He should be rostered in far more than 55% of Yahoo leagues.

Alperen Sengun amassed 14 points (7-of-13 FGs, 0-of-1 FTs), eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 25 minutes in Friday’s win over Portland.

Sengun has tallied eight rebounds or more in 10 of the 12 games he’s played in November, providing top 40 per-game value over the last three weeks. That’s slightly better than the Rockets center’s season-long value, so it’s fair to say things are going according to plan for those who managed to roster Sengun. Houston hosts Portland again on Saturday in their final game of Week 5.

Jalen Green shot 6-of-17 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in Friday’s win over the Trail Blazers, scoring 17 points with five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three 3-pointers in 30 minutes.

By now, category league managers should understand that Green will put them in a position where they have to concede field goal percentage. Counting Friday, he’s shot 40% or worse from the field in 10 of his 12 games in November, a significant reason why Green’s ranked outside the top 200 over the last three weeks. However, punting that category makes him a 12th-round player. Unlike a box of chocolates, you know what you’re getting with Green in fantasy basketball.
